Supporting Local Small Businesses in Toronto

The City has announced that more than $5.4 million in funding will be available this winter to help eligible small businesses. The funding will support:

  • The Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program: This program will provide funding for community-driven projects that address the unintended effects that transit construction can have on local businesses. Eligible organizations can access grants of up to $50,000 for various initiatives. Applications close on March 2nd or until funds are fully expended, whichever comes first. 

  • The Main Street Innovation Fund: BIAs and non-profit organizations can access funding ranging from $25,000 - $100,000 to test innovative and creative solutions to local challenges and support streetscape animation. Applications close on March 16th.

  • The Commercial Space Rehabilitation Grant Program: Commercial business operators and owners of vacant storefronts can access matching funding of 50 percent to undertake interior improvements and assist in re-leasing space impacted by COVID-19. Maximum grants available are $20,000, with additional funding of $4,000 available for accessibility upgrades. Applications close on February 28th or until funds are fully expended, whichever comes first.
